The members of Aussie psych outfit Pond — three of whom moonlight as players in Tame Impala — aren't wasting any time following up last year's Beard, Wives, Denim LP. Pond's next full-length, Hobo Rocket, will be out this spring via Modular, Brooklyn Vegan reports. An exact release date hasn't been announced, but the band did share new track "Giant Tortoise," which will appear on the upcoming album. Featuring guitars that fluctuate from weightlessness to full-on classic rock crunk, "Giant Tortoise" is a trippy slab of space rock that serves as the dark side to Lonerism's moon.
Speaking to Tone Deaf, Pond guitarist Jay Watson described Hobo Rocket as a “full on crazy fiend rock and roll album.” He added, "We were going to do a really nice, beautiful orchestrated album, but we figured we might as well capture the live band as we’ve been touring… So that’s what Hobo Rocket is, the full on, manic acid rock [album].” Watson also confirmed that he and bandmate Joseph Ryan are planning to drop their respective solo albums on the same day sometime in the spring, and that Allbrook/Avery — side project for Pond's Nick Allbrook and Cam Avery — are planning to put out their own record that day as well.
For now, listen to "Giant Tortoise" below, or download it for free on Pond's website.
