PJ Harvey Plans to Release Poetry Book, ‘The Hollow of the Hand’

PJ Harvey

PJ Harvey has announced plans to release her first book, titled the Hollow of the Hand. (Sounds a bit Balzacian, no? The Wild Ass’s Skin… by Polly Jean Harvey…) The 224-page volume will feature a collection of images and poetry created in collaboration with photographer/filmmaker Seamus Murphy, whom some might remember as the director of all twelve short films from Harvey’s 2011 album, Let England ShakeAccording to NME, the book will archive the authors’ international travels between 2011 and 2014, featuring visits to countries such as Kosovo and Afghanistan.

The “Good Fortune” singer detailed her new project in a press release: “Gathering information from secondary sources felt too far removed for what I was trying to write about. I wanted to smell the air, feel the soil, and meet the people of the countries I was fascinated with. My friend Seamus Murphy and I agreed to grow a project together — I would collect words, he would collect pictures, following our instincts on where we should go.”

The Hollow of the Hand will be released in the United States on October 20, 2015 via Bloomsbury Circus — just in time for Halloween.

UPDATE: You can also hear Harvey a poem titled “The Guest Room” via the New Yorker.
