Phoenix Will Rise Again on ‘Saturday Night Live’ in April

phoenix, bankrupt!, saturday night live

Phoenix will soon follow their bizarre Samurai-starring music video for “Entertainment” with a more straightforward appearance as Saturday Night Live’s musical guest on April 6.

Just weeks before Phoenix delivers their upcoming fifth album, Bankrupt! (out April 23 via Loyaute/Glassnote Records), the Coachella 2013 headliners will return to Studio 8H as musical guests for an episode hosted by Bridesmaids MVP (and star of this summer’s The Heat) Melissa McCarthy. Phoenix previously blew the late-night show away in 2009, performing “Lisztomania” and “1901.”

The Thomas Mars-fronted unit will bring some much-needed excitement to the SNL stage. We’re more than halfway through Season 38 and while there have been some musical highlights — Kendrick Lamar’s typically outstanding set, Justin Bieber’s not-totally-terrible performance — we’ve also had to sit through snoozers from the Lumineers, botched comedy bits from Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, and the full-steam-ahead shit-train of Macklemore.

After newly inducted “Five-Timer” Justin Timberlake’s unanimously praised gig as host and musical guest last week, we’re optimistic Phoenix will keep up the trend of episodes worth watching.
