Philly Loves Boys Like Girls, Valencia

Valencia, Boys Like Girls, and Envy on the Coast made a stop at Starlight Ballroom, playing to a sold-out crowd that started lining up as early as 8 A.M. Weeks earlier, this stop of the bands’ Northeast tour — on which each of the pop-punk prodigies will headline their hometowns — was moved to a larger venue. Many in attendance were there to see Philly’s own Valencia.

But a strong case was made by Boston-area band Boys Like Girls, as showgoers crowd-surfed and sang along to their sugary anthems, picking up where vocalist Martin Johnson left off during “Hero/Heroine.” His band was assaulted by camera phones during the set, and when the picture-taking ended and a bra thrown at them was swept up, the last of the sweat-soaked fans seemed poised to speed up I-95 to Boston to do it all again.
