Today in things we wish we had been around to see, ex-New Order bassist Peter Hook invited Billy Corgan and Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder onstage with him to perform a live rendition of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” (Commence music nerd envy-induced twitching.)
Currently touring with his band the Light, the Joy Division co-founder stopped by Metro Cabaret in Chicago to perform New Order’s third and fourth albums, Low-Life (1985) and Brotherhood (1986). And because he was in Chicago, Hook it upon himself to welcome two Chi-Town natives: the aforementioned Corgan and Schroeder. It’s a little tricky to hear Corgan’s vocals, as the crowd drowns them out with chants of “LOVE WILL TEAR US APART,” but we can’t be too mad at that — we’d do the same, certainly.
Watch for yourself above, and watch the originaal video for Joy Division’s new wave classic below.
