Tim Fite Announces Free Halloween EP, Tour

Halloween and Brooklyn's eclectic songsmith Tim Fite is an ideal match; they're both festive, playful, and truth be told, a little creepy. So to celebrate this year's holiday, Mr. Fite has announced the release of a free six-track release, set to be available for download one day only, Oct. 31, via timfite.com. "Last year when I was trick or treating, I decided go to the house that nobody ever goes to. There was no light on the porch, no jack-o-lantern on the stair, no bowl of candy with a note warning to 'only take one.'" Fite explained in a statement. "I knocked, and a very old man answered the door. He said he didn't have any candy (because it was bad for his diabetes), but that he'd be happy to give me a recording of his six favorite songs. I held out my sack, and with a shaking veiny hand, he dropped in a worn looking cassette tape."

"I popped the tape into my boom box. The music that came out was like none I'd ever heard before -- sort of a cross between a horror movie soundtrack and an instrumental funk/disco record played on vintage synthesizers. There were no vocals and no indication on the tape as to where the music came from, only six of the scariest songs I had ever listened to… For the year since that fateful Halloween, I have been haunted by the old man's favorite songs. I couldn't help but wonder if there was some kind of supernatural force at work that wanted me to add lyrics to them." Be sure to download Fite's Halloween release, and then this November, catch him on tour with My Brightest Diamond.

Nas Unveils Controversial LP Title

Seminal rapper Nas, never one to back down from spitting a little fire, has unveiled the title of his forthcoming album: Nigga. The record, which Nas detailed during a performance at New York's Roseland Ballroom Friday (Oct. 12), has yet-to-be issued a release date by his label, Def Jam, and will follow up 2006's set Hip Hop is Dead, Billboard.com reports. I wonder what this guy will think of the album title?

Liam Gallagher Voted as Tenth Wittiest Brit

Apparently all that babble spewing from the jaws of Oasis mouthpiece Liam Gallagher has won over a few fans at home in England, for the raucous rocker has been voted as the tenth wittiest person in British history, NME.com reports. The poll, collected by over 3,000 viewers via popular TV channel Dave, places Gallagher at the bottom of an impressive list. Famed writer and playwright Oscar Wilde tops the poll while, while former Prime Minister Winston Churchill placed in the No. 5 slot. A respected collection of writers and critics complete the list. Though Gallagher may feel he's finally receiving due respect, one particular band may not agree.
