Who says a lovesick song can't have snotty lyrics, spazzy krautrock freakouts, and what we're pretty sure is the sort of flute known to school children as a recorder? "I thought I knew a thing or two about the blues / But you've got me wonderin' now," Parquet Courts deadpan on "You've Got Me Wonderin'," their brainily heartbroken first new song since March's B-side "Smart Aleck Kid." Toothaches, seasickness, and sunburns are all better than what our narrator is feeling on a track that's at once sugary, dizzying, and scorching.

"You've got me wonderin' now" is also what a voice says when you call (917) 471-2855, a phone number included on a cassette mixtape recently mailed to 250 fans. You can leave your message after the tone. But Parquet Courts have a message for us, too: "You've Got Me Wonderin'" is from Tally All the Things That You Broke, a new EP due out on October 8 via What's Your Rupture?. That follows the New York foursome's excellent Light Up Gold, which you can hear in full on Bandcamp.

Phone numbers have returned to vogue recently in the music realm, though more often for sharing music than taking fans' messages. Last December, noise-rock massive Foot Village shared their great Make Memories over the phone. In February, fans could ring up new and rare How to Destroy Angels and Beastie Boys tracks. In a twist, Queens of the Stone Age asked for fans' phone numbers to make a creepy robo-call promoting ...Like Clockwork. What's more, the whole trend is something of a blast from the past: They Might Be Giants once had a Dial-A-Song service, MCI Communications offered 1-800-MUSIC-NOW, and even SPIN briefly had a 900 number. Let the countdown to International Music-by-Phone Day begin.
