Odd Future’s 2012: Tour, Release Music, Get Sketchy

After gate-crashing the pop-music discussion throughout last year, Odd Future are setting their sights on an equally eventful 2012. The Los Angeles hip-hop collective has announced a 17-date spring tour, along with a new mixtape, upcoming solo albums by members Tyler, the Creator and MellowHype, and the March 25 premiere of the group’s Adult Swim sketch comedy show, Loiter Squad. There will most likely be illin’.

First, about that tour: Odd Future’s North American trek starts on March 9 with a performance at the Marquee Theater in Tempe, Arizona, and the last scheduled performance is currently set for April 11 at the Showbox SoDo in Seattle, with a handful of U.K. dates also squeezed in between. According to Pitchfork, a Loiter Squad screening and an Odd Future pop-up store will hit each city in addition to the group’s set.

Did we say new Odd Future music? In a goofy video press release, Odd Future also detailed (at least some of) their release plans for the year. On March 20, the crew will release OF Tape Vol. 2, follow-up to their self-titled 2008 mixtape. The list of expected contributors includes Tyler, Frank Ocean, Hodgy Beats, Left Brain, Domo Genesis, Mike G, and the Internet (Syd the Kid and Matt Martians), though not Earl Sweatshirt.

What about Odd Future solo albums? Yes, Odd Future members are also planning to put out new solo albums this year. According to the video press release, Tyler will be releasing sophomore full-length Wolf, his follow-up to last year’s Goblin, in May. MellowHype, the duo of Left Brain and Hodgy Beats, is evidently planning on a summer release for its second album, titled Numbers.

TV becomes Odd: The group’s live-action Adult Swim show, Loiter Squad, premieres on March 25. So if you want to see it earlier than that, be sure to catch OFTWGA on tour. According to Adult Swim’s website, the show “features sketches, man on the street segments, pranks, and music from Odd Future Wolfgang Kill Them All.” Fuck!
