Some of music's hottest artists, including Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor, Pearl Jam, Weezer, R.E.M., Neon Indian, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, and Circa Survive are supporting a new film called Countdown to Zero to make their collective message clear: No more nukes!

These musicians and more -- OK Go, Fanfarlo, Jay Electronica, Tom Morello, Mayer Hawthorne, the Gossip -- are urging fans to see the documentary, which chronicles the escalating global nuclear arms crisis, from the bomb's creation in the early 1940s to the terrorists and rogue nations who are trying to acquire them now.

Directed by Lucy Walker (Devil's Playground, Blindsight) and produced by Academy Award winner Lawrence Bender (Inglourious Basterds, An Inconvenient Truth), the film features interviews with world leaders including President Jimmy Carter, Mikhail Gorbachev, Pervez Musharraf, and Tony Blair. It opens July 23 in Washington, DC, and New York, and in 20 more cities across the nation on July 30. For more details click here.

Pearl Jam lent their song "The Fixer," from 2009's Backspacer, to the film's closing credits, while other artists recorded PSAs about the doc and its mission statement: inspire demand for a world without nuclear weapons.

The effort includes petitions urging U.S. Senators to ratify the New START Treaty (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty), as well as building support for a declaration to eliminate all nuclear weapons, spearheaded by anti-nuclear weapon campaign Global Zero.
