Weezer singer-guitarist Rivers Cuomo isn’t shy about his obsession with heavy metal — just look at dude’s high school senior class photo, which graced the cover of his latest solo album. And this fall, Cuomo will return to his roots with Weezer’s eighth studio release.

According to an interview with Connecticut’s News Times, the power-pop outfit will release their new album September 13 on a yet-to-be-named independent record label, and the frontman is promising heavy riffage. “There’s definitely going to be more raw rock energy on this one,” he said.

When asked about the album’s name, Cuomo replied, “I’ve spent the entire morning trying to come up with a name for the record… How does ‘Heavy Mental’ sound?”

Actually, that sounds great, Rivers!

Cuomo didn’t spill any other details about the album, and a Weezer publicist declined to confirm a release date or indie label deal.
