New Order Break Up Confirmed

Bassist Peter Hook establishes the band's death knell via a MySpace.com blog post.

It's official: New Order is no more. Less than a week after hinting at a break-up on a U.K. radio show, bassist Peter Hook has confirmed the split via a MySpace page blog post. "I'm relieved," he wrote. "Really hated carryin' on as normal with an awful secret, so let's move on, shall we?"

And by move on, Hook is referring to his numerous musical projects, most notably Freebase, a outfit featuring fellow low enders Andy Rourke (the Smiths) and Mani (Stone Roses/Primal Scream). The band is currently working with an impressive cast of vocalists on forthcoming material. Heartbroken fans can head to France's Cannes Film Festival on May 17 to catch Control, a film scored by New Order, which documents the life of Joy Division's deceased frontman Ian Curtis.

Talk: Was it love that tore them apart, or perhaps a bizarre love triangle?
