Anyone familiar with Gerard Way's band My Chemical Romance and their proclivity for the concept album (see: 2006's The Black Parade) knows the guys are suckers for a theme.
So when Way's brother and bandmate Mikey Way announced via Twitter yesterday that Gerard and his wife, Lindsey, had welcomed their first baby, a girl, and named her Bandit Lee Way (all of which, plus the newborn's birth weight of 6 lbs., 5.6 oz., has been confirmed to SPIN.com by the band's publicist), it seemed likely that there was some sort of explanation behind it. Because, you know, those emo types love to plant personal meaning wherever they can -- and their kids' names are no exception. Just ask Bronx Mowgli Wentz!
And then we recalled something Gerard Way said -- while talking about the band's next album -- about how the group really digs that "classic, late-'70s" vibe in their music. So maybe he also digs Burt Reynolds' mustache from the classic, late-'70s flick Smokey and the Bandit?
Mystery solved, right? Not exactly. When we used high-tech Internet search technology to link Way to the word "bandit," we uncovered a bizarre story: A little over two months ago, the MCR frontman placed a public ad seeking a new car that included this stipulation: "I absolutely do not want gold, brown, or that frigging Smokey and the Bandit car -- that shit is whack."
Like, whoa? It seems doubtful that Way would want his baby's name to be associated with something whack, but whatever -- we're tired of Googling! Congratulations to the happy family!

I compleatly agree. Melissa Goldstein has mentioned Lyn-Z the same way you would talk about The Jonas Brothers (Who I hate more than brussel sprouts) without Nick, and only a slight mention of Kevin. This is unfair, unkind, and undeniably wrong. She focuses on Gee, Gee, Gee. She rarely mentions Bandit, whom the article is SUPPOSED to be about. I never had a subscription in the first place, and I don't plan on ever making one now. That's all I have to say, other than YOU GO, RIAN!!!

aww theyre aughter will be really pretty i bet!!! i did the math and she would have been pregnant since like augest! maybe thats why they got married so fast, but then again i know they already were great friends before gees downward spiral a while back so whatever, they love eachother and i am SOOOO happy for them...and i lov the name Bandit is great! and he kept the Lee as the middle name for a girl a tradition like his grandmother an mom both are 4 middle names <3 :)

Okay so I'm a good -counts on fingers- 6 MONTHS LATE! But aww <3 that's so cute that Gerard is finally a daddy! I was waiting for one of the guys in MCR to become the first dad of the band, and I'm happy Gerard was it...I don't think the world needs another Energizer Bunny just yet xP ( Sorry Frankie =D).
But awww Bandit Lee Way is going to be a ****ing awesome kid in school. I can tell with Gerard's personality, and Lyn Z's looks =D...unless she does home-schooling thing then she'll wreak havoc on their neighborhood xP. Skateboarding at 3am xD lol. She is going to be amazing!

Omg, people need to lay off of Gerard! I mean dang! He has done a lot for their relationship and im sure tht Lyn-Z has too but yall need to lay off the harsh comments about him! He did nothing to you guys to get this kind of treatment! I am a very big fan of Gerard and Lyn-Z but you guys really need to LAY OFF!!!!!!!♥♥♥♥ They are the cutest couple ever and now that they have a baby together, I mean, it is the perfect lil' family! I think Bandit is BEAUTIFUL name. It's very unique. Congrats to Gee and Lyn-z, both are sure to be wonderful parents. I'm a fan of both bands, and I must admit that I agree with Rian. Lyn-z is more than 'just a chick' or 'his wife'. She's f****** Lyn-z!!!......Anywho........

i love lyn-z and gerard way so much they are going to be great parents and that story about bandits name is really awesome lol i would of never figured that out lol! anyways if lyn-z or gerard or any of the my chemical romance or mindless self indulgence i love you both guys and congrates with your new baby who by the way is the cutest baby ever- i saw pics-

That was just a little bit too much I think.
1) She wasn't saying it to be bitchy, she was simply stating that it was an unusual name, and to some it is, chill out a little bit. Personally I think Bandit is an adorable name, but I can see why some may think it's a little unconventional. Besides, she never said that it was bad name!
2) Have a bit of respect, you need to wash your mouth out with soap. You're entitled to an opinion, everyone is, but the way you've voiced it is disgraceful.
3) Bandit reflects Gerard and Lyn-Z's child just as much as Melissa may have reflected her. Don't go ranting and raving about hating on a name and then do it yourself, it's called being a hypocrite.
4) Everyones opinion counts for something, don't go shouting yours to the world and not care about others.
5) And yes, I also agree with the Ryan fellow. On that part, it was badly reported, but things like this happen, just get over it.
Don't tell someone to quit what they enjoy doing and that they suck at it, you would hate it if someone did that to you.

2. Bandit is a pretty name. It's unique and reflects how Gerard and Lyn-Z are [not as bandits, but their awesome uniqueness] way better than the name Melissa. whore. don't you dare say it's unusual. and why the hell does it matter anyways what their child name is and the meaning behind it? they have their own reasons for naming their girl Bandit and it sure as hell is none of your business. They could have named their child Googleplex for all I care and it would be completely acceptable because it was THEIR decision. No one gives a crap if YOU think it's UNUSUAL. I think YOU'RE unusual. You. FAIL. at. life. don't be such a BIT**.
3. I completely agree with Ryan. LYN-Z is just as much part of the birthing process, if not MORE than Gerard. and trust me. I absolutely LOVE Gerard. but Lyn-Z as the mother more than deserves that acknowledgment.Quit as a journalist. cause you suck.

Yes, I admit, I'm more of a Gee-fan than a Lyn-Z fan, but that doesn't change the fact that she's just as much of a factor in birthing Bandit as Gerard was.
I'm not a feminazi either, I just hope they actually notice that the post they'd just made was extremely biased.

I find it really... Interesting, that not once is Lyn-Z, bassist of Mindless Self Indulgence, referred to as anything more than Gerard Way's wife in this article. She's a musician and an artist. She joined her band before My Chemical Romance was a glimmer in Gerard's eye. Her band has been in Spin magazine before, pre**** MCR's inclusion in the mag. This article blathers on and on about Gerard (who I think is wonderful, but...) Lyn-Z carried *their* child for nine months, spent however long in discomfort to give birth to their new baby, and for some reason she merits nothing more than a mention as "...his wife, Lindsey..." Melissa Goldstein, are you a relative of Lyn-Z's? A friend? An old schoolmate? Whether you are or not, this is supposed to be an article about music and musicians and their lives; it's pretty insulting and unprofessional to call Lyn-Z (a musician who chooses to go by a stage name) by a name she *doesn't actually use publicly*. This isn't an article about Gerard's band, or his comic book, where mentioning his partner should rightly be brief, so as to focus on the music; this is an article about the birth and naming of a child, who he is just one of two parents of, where the journalist felt the need to introduce Gerard, go on and on about what he's said and twittered, but mentioned his partner, Lyn-Z, a total of once, as some kind of extension of Gerard, like she's just around sometimes, just some hanger-on and not the other parent, the carrying and birthing parent. It's rude, and disgusting, and insulting, and now I'm glad I let my subscription to Spin lapse, because I don't want to financially support a magazine that allows something like this to get past the copy editor and into print, whether on the internet or on the page. It's really sad, as the announcement of Bandit's birth at People.com, of all places, actually mentioned both Gerard *and* Lyn-Z (by *both* her stage and legal name), as members of their respective bands, succinctly, respectfully, and as a family made up of more than just GERARD WAY and, oh yeah, that chick he married. But the truly sad thing? Is that Melissa Goldstein, if she ever reads the comments, probably doesn't think there's anything wrong with any of this. And most of the people who bother to comment after I do? Will write my comment off as me being "too sensitive" and "overreacting" and as me being some kind of "feminazi". They won't be willing or able to see the way this article was handled as the *complete erasure* of recognition of Lyn-Z as an incredible, magnetic performer, and the subsequent redefining of her as *only* someone's wife, and as this being a genuine problem worthy of addressing.
