Mumford & Sons are often perceived as a bunch of self-serious folkies who could lighten up. When SPIN certified the English band’s 2012 album Babel as a Worst New Music (dis)honoree, reviewer Chuck Eddy noted, “Great artists have incorporated… old-time religion, and old-timey rhythms, ever since old times. It’s how you do it that matters. A sense of humor helps.” Looks like the five-piece got the memo: Marcus Mumford & co. drafted professional funnymen Ed Helms, Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman, and Will Forte to star in the just-released music video for “Hopeless Wanderer.” The comedy all-stars play a bizarro version of the Grammy-winning outfit — a version of Mumford & Sons that isn’t afraid to make out on camera, chew on each other’s facial hair, shed some tears in a group hug, grind against their instruments, or get sloppy drunk after a banjo-shredding showcase. Not as brilliant as Nick Offerman exposing himself in public and peeing on everything in sight, but an admirable effort nonetheless.
