Hear Mozes and the Firstborn's Gritty Cover of the Velvet Underground's 'Lady Godiva's Operation'

In honor of the 45th anniversary of the Velvet Underground’s White Light/White Heat, Burger Records has tapped a handful of artists to record their own version of the avant-garde classic. Due December 10 (the same day Universal Music Enterprises is set to unveil a “Super Deluxe” reissue of White Light/White Heat), the upcoming tribute record will only be available on cassette. Luckily, SPIN is streaming every single track from the full-length, with a new one premiering each day leading up to the compilation’s release.

We’ve already heard Natural Child amble through White Light/White Heat‘s title track and witnessed the Memories play “The Gift” by the book. Now it’s time for Netherlands-based Mozes and the Firstborn to put “Lady Godiva’s Operation” under the knife. Their rendition drops the off-key duet and heartbeat sound effects of the original, instead opting for an elastic bass line and outbursts of garage-rock fury.
