American Morrissey fans have had a brutal couple of years, even by their (our) own self-torturing standards. Though Moz's Autobiography ranked as one of SPIN's Best Music Books of 2013, U.S. readers only got an abridged version — and, as Barry Walters eloquently explains in a recent NPR essay, the thing's so vitriolic it's too bad the title How to Lose Friends and Alienate People was already taken. Then there was the unorthodox U.S. tour the former Smiths singer announced in June 2012, which was subject to enough delays, cancellations, and other drama for another 400-page tome (a brief rundown is here).

But Morrissey revealed in January he would release a new album this year on Harvest Records, and now he has lifted the lid on a fresh helping of U.S. tour dates. According to unofficial mouthpiece True to You, the trek is scheduled to run from May 7 in San Jose, California, to June 21 in New York City. "It's Not Unusual" singer Tom Jones, who collaborated with Jack White in early 2012, is booked to join Moz on May 10 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Another U.K. crooner, Cliff Richard, is set for the New York gig, at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. Kristeen Young will open up both dates.

A word of caution: On that ill-fated 2012 jaunt, the Stooges were originally scheduled to open for Morrissey in Los Angeles. That didn't happen. But Moz did end up putting Patti Smith on the bill instead. See? You can't always get what you please, please, please want, but if you try sometimes, you — sorry, bigmouth strikes again.
