As carnivores worldwide work themselves into a frenzy over whether they’d ingested Mr. Ed-tainted discount meatballs, outspoken vegetarian Morrissey has taken aim at a more socially accepted act of animal cruelty: hunting. Moz has rescinded his RSVP to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday unless the late-night show removes the cast of A&E’s Duck Dynasty from its lineup. And he’s not so sorry.
In a statement released to the press late Monday (February 25), the brooding PETA Scoreboard leader made the grand decree: “As far as my reputation is concerned, I can’t take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers,” Moz said. “If Jimmy cannot dump Duck Dynasty then we must step away.”
According to the AP, ABC has slotted in the Churchill band for Kimmel‘s February 26 broadcast. Morrissey’s performance will reportedly be rescheduled, but the new date hasn’t yet been made public.
Of course, this is only one of many tete-a-tetes with the meat industry the singer has entered into lately. His on-again, off-again all-vegetarian gig at Los Angeles’ Staples Center next month is still in question. He also famously walked off the Coachella stage after catching a whiff of charred animal flesh. Moz recently revealed that he turned down a subsequent Coachella headlining set, even though the festival offered to go meatless, because they asked him to reunite the Smiths.
