Morrissey Cancels Shows After Being Hospitalized With a Bleeding Ulcer

The illness shouldn't impair him permanently, a rep says

Heaven knows several states' Morrissey fans are miserable now. Last June, the former Smiths frontman announced a planned 33-date U.S. tour that included less-traveled destinations such as Clear Lake, Iowa, and Wichita Falls, Texas. Then, in October, he postponed a big chunk of the shows to spend time with his sick mother. Now Moz has rescheduled another set of dates, as Billboard reports.

He has a rather unassailable reason. The 53-year-old singer was reportedly hospitalized in Royal Oak, Michigan, for a "suspected bladder infection" that doctors ultimately diagnosed a bleeding ulcer. A spokesperson told Billboard he should recover fully from the ailment, but he's going to have to delay some shows yet again.

Morrissey already canceled his Flint, Michigan, show, originally set for January 24, and postponed the two subsequent dates. Now he has also pushed back his planned shows in Asheville, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; Atlanta, Georgia; Lawrence, Kansas; Clear Lake, Iowa; and Lincoln, Nebraska. He'll hit the road again on February 9 in Las Vegas.

"Morrissey apologizes greatly for any and all inconvenience and looks forward to continuing his U.S. tour," his representative is quoted as saying. Clear Lake's Surf Ballroom, the last venue Buddy Holly ever played, will await him. In the meantime his fans will weep softly on their bedroom floors while listening to Louder Than Bombs on repeat. Get well soon, Moz!
