It’s as if the universe wanted to apologize: We learned today that Missy Elliott will be dropping her first album in seven years, Block Party, this June. Timbaland, Elliott’s longtime collaborator, told MTV that the duo will each be releasing concurrent solo records this summer. Full-lengths aside, Missy has recently appeared on a handful of tracks, including one via Timbaland’s "Timbaland Thursdays" last January, in addition to Demi Lovato’s "All Night Long" and J. Cole’s "Nobody’s Perfect" back in September.
Over the past year, Elliott has been sharing some heavy personal information: First, that she had been diagnosed with Graves’ Disease, an autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid; then, she revealed heartbreaking details of her unhappy childhood for her VH1 Behind the Music special last June.
It’s about time Missy’s had some good news to share. And it’s been far too long since the world has received a gem like "Get Ur Freak On" — and no, "Stupid Hoe" does not count.
