Sic Alps called it quits back in July, but frontman Mike Donovan is continuing on with a solo career. This week, the San Francisco garage-rock mastermind issued Wot, the first album released under his own name. "Where [Sic Alps] had made it to, in terms of the lineup and the songs, the whole story of the band," Donovan tells SPIN. "I feel like we were at a good spot to end it, have it be the last chapter. It was a happy death."
Now he's back with a new single, the frayed feel-good tune "Do Do Ya?," and a new music video. Created by Viktor Rosengruen, Janosch Pugnaghi, and Jan Lankisch, the "Do Do Ya?" clip equips Donovan with a microphone, guitar, and saxophone, and casts him in front of a green screen that makes it loook as though he's running through the streets of Cologne. "It's got that karaoke vibe," Donovan says. "Jan [Lankisch] said something like, 'You know, some '90s band had too much of a budget, made a video, it got shelved, and the only way they could put it on YouTube was the VHS copy they had mastered onto or something.'"
