Watch MGMT Bash Out Another New Song Live, Reportedly ‘Your Life Is a Lie’

MGMT

“Don’t take the lyrics the wrong way. It’s actually a positive message.” That’s how MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden introduced another new song the band debuted earlier this week, at the State Theatre in Portland, Maine. According to Pitchfork, a set list indicated the song is titled “Your Life Is a Lie.” The sound quality is unfortunately a bit too blown out to enjoy many of the lyrics, but the Congratulations rockers haven’t gone shitgaze on us: In fact, the song’s upbeat catchiness and the presence of what sounds like cowbell happily bring to mind good-times bands like Free Energy. “That’s all you get, I gotta enjoy, too, fuck,” our intrepid YouTube cameraman slurs, before cutting off the video early. MGMT, whose third album is on the way, previously debuted new song “Mystery Disease” live at Penn State University. They also released psych-pop reverie “Alien Days,” expected to appear on the LP, as a Record Store Day cassette single. The band performed at Lupo’s in Providence, Rhode Island, last night and will play Byrd Stadium in Washington, D.C., on Friday night.
