Believe it or not, the metal community and cat fanciers have a lot of overlapping members. For her new book, Metal Cats, musician, jewelry designer, and photographer Alexandra Crockett enlisted some dark-looking dudes and their kitties for a series of awesome, often adorable portraits. The people involved are musicians including (and fans and promoters associated with) Isis, Xasthur, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, and Black Goat, among many others.
As the tome's description says, "Metal isn't all dark and disturbing, violent, and misanthropic. Metal Cats is proof that while the music may be brutal, the people in the scene are softies for their pets just like you and me."
Aside from the entertainment value, the book also serves a great cause: Promoting awareness of and raising money for no-kill animal shelters. A portion of the proceeds from Metal Cats and some upcoming benefit shows will go to four select West Coast shelters, so get a sampling of the photos below and pick up the 176-page book now via powerHouse.
