The shortlist of nominees for the U.K.'s esteemed Barclaycard Mercury Prize has been revealed. David Bowie, Arctic Monkeys, Disclosure, Savages, and Rudimental are all eligible for the 2013 award, which honors the best album by a British or Irish act, as chosen by a panel of musicians and industry figures.

Bowie's been recognized for his first proper LP in a decade, The Next Day; Arctic Monkeys are in the mix for their just-released fifth full-length, AM; and Disclosure, Savages, and Rudimental have all been nominated for their respective debut albums (the SPIN Essentials Settle, Silence Yourself, and Home).

Rounding out the rest of the shortlist: Foals' Holy Fire, James Blake's Overgrown, Laura Marling's Once I Was an Eagle, Jon Hopkins' Immunity, Laura Mvula's Sing to the Moon, Villagers' Awayland, and Jake Bugg's self-titled effort. The victor will be crowned and given £20,000 on October 30.

Last year's winner was Alt-J, who collected the Prize for debut album An Awesome Wave
