Maxwell’s Documentary Traces New Jersey Rock Club’s Rich History

Maxwell's Documentary New Jersey Tribute Bongos

Iconic Hoboken rock club Maxwell’s will tear its last ticket on Wednesday night (July 31) following 35 years of loyal operation in service to punk, grunge, and various strains of alternative rock. Richard Barone of the Bongos shared his fond memories of the influential space with SPIN earlier this week (read “When the Club Was the Star”) and Yo La Tengo played a tender two-set farewell show under that hallowed roof. Now, as Brooklyn Vegan points out, the New Jersey Star-Ledger has released a20-minute documentary on Maxwell’s dubbed A Darkened Stage: The Last Days of Maxwell’s. Brone appears in the film alongside owners Todd Abramson and Steve Fallon, not to mention members of the Feelies, Titus Andronicus, Screaming Females, and more. Watch that above, and revisit Bruce Springsteen’s “Glory Days” for more shots of the club in action.
