Mastodon Sound the 'Chimes at Midnight' on Furious New Song

Prog-metal veterans releasing sixth album 'Once More 'Round the Sun' this month

Dan Reilly

Mastodon are about to blast off again with their sixth album, Once More 'Round the Sun, and they've already shared the melodic new single "High Road." Now the Atlanta quartet is back with "Chimes at Midnight," which almost doubles down on the heaviness, thanks to some crushing drum work by Brann Dailor and the rapid-fire dual guitars of Brent Hinds and Bill Kelleher. To sweeten the pot, Mastodon set the new track to visuals inspired by the new LP's artwork, a colorfully insane depiction of some sort of psychedelic space god, just like they did for "High Road." Watch it above before the album arrives June 24 via Reprise, and read SPIN's feature on the making of Once More 'Round the Sun.
