Since the Mars Volta offically broke up in January, the defunct prog-rock unit has spawned two separate bands: Guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López and drummer Deantoni Parks have formed Bosnian Rainbows, while frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala and bassist Juan Alderete de la Peña are recording as Zavalaz. But even in death, the Mars Volta is a project that keeps giving. As Antiquiet points out, a collection of previously unheard Volta material has surfaced — a 15-track set of demos that were reportedly recorded with EDM superstar David Guetta.

The tracks first started to make the rounds on a forum called the Comatorium, where a user claimed to receive a private message containing Mars Volta “b-sides” that came with the instruction to share them online. After the tracks circulated among fans, ex-drummer Thomas Pridgen confirmed that the recordings were legit by writing on Facebook yesterday (August 15), “im pretty sure the songs i loved playing on [2009’s] Octahedron that didnt make the record are on there and im excited.”

Bixler-Zavala then revealed the Guetta connection on Twitter, posting the following message: “The recent TMV leaks are from a session we did w/ @davidguetta during our residency at Ibiza hot spot RAMROD.”

The whole 80-minute set, which consists mostly of instrumentals, is still available for download via Mediafire. None of the songs appear to have finalized names (titles include “,14” and “eog-3”) or be in any kind of sequential order. Still, it’s new-ish Volta that bears the mark of the third highest-paid DJ in the world. Enjoy.
