See Marnie Stern’s Fantastical Yet Down-to-Earth ‘Immortals’ Video

Marnie Stern, Fig, "Immortals," 'Chronicles of Marnia,' video

Marnie Stern’s latest video vividly captures what makes her music tick. On just-released SPIN Essential album Chronicles of Marnia, the New York noise-popper puts her familiar blizzards of finger-tapped guitar notes beneath lyrics wracked with self-questioning. This contrast between rock-star fantasy and indie-famous reality carries over the video for one of the record’s most confident-sounding tracks, “Immortals.” Directed by Allie Avital Tsypin (School of Seven Bells, the Mynabirds), the clip splits between Stern daydreaming mythologically on her couch, running everyday errands around New York City, and playing for an exaggeratedly amped crowd. Be sure to keep an eye out for her dog, Fig, a true immortal if ever there was one.
