Marcus Mumford, Elvis Costello, More Bring Their New Basement Tapes to ‘Ellen’

Marcus Mumford Elvis Costello New Basement Tapes Bob Dylan Kansas City Ellen Video

As a tribute to Bob Dylan’s legendary team-up with the band in 1967, a group of A-list acolytes have banded together to give life to a few lost songs from those sessions as The New Basement Tapes. Marcus Mumford, Elvis Costello, Jim James, the Caroline Chocolate Drops’ Rhiannon Giddens and Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith will release the set of tracks officially this week, so they’ve been taking their supergroup around to the requisite late night shows for some star studded performances.

Costello took the lead early this week on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, but Friday the Mumford and Sons main man jumped to the forefront on Ellen for a sweeping rendition of “Kansas City.” You can catch that above, and if you’re itching for more, they’ll return to the small screen on November 19 for a performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live and then on November 21 for a Showtime documentary about the making of the album.
