Mack Wilds Gives ‘VIBE’ a Tour of New York City

After spending 24 hours with Black Hippy’s Isaiah Rashad, VIBE presents another day-in-the-life video, this time with Grammy-nominated artist Mack Wilds. Despite the actor-turned-R&B crooner’s roots as a native New Yorker, the clip finds Mack braving the subway for the first time in years. He also reminisces about being a “kid from Shaolin” — that’s Staten Island for those not fluent in the ways of the Wu-Tang Clan — and talks about getting confused with his most beloved onscreen role: Baltimore middle-schooler Michael Lee on HBO’s The Wire. Wilds also discusses fashion (he describes his style as “old-school Americana meets the hood”) and the creative process behind his cinematic debut album, New York: A Love Story. Watch the piece above, and read SPIN‘s profile of Mack Wilds.
