Cleveland quartet Lovedrug seems a bit stuck in the '90s, but in this case, the time warp does wonders for their edgy soundscapes. Their upcoming sophomore effort, Everything Starts Where It Ends, has the grungy guitar brawn of bygone flannel rockers, but adds complexity with epic arrangements and moments of unsettling Thom Yorke falsetto from frontman Michael Shepard. Stripped to its essence in Saline, MI's Loft studio (where Lovedrug was recording), this acoustic performance of "Casino Clouds" maintains a wistful richness in its relentless guitars and sweeping harmonies. Everything Starts Where it Ends starts appearing in stores March 6 on the Militia Group.
