Louis XIV Go Gala

Playing to an eclectic crowd of hipsters, socialites, and costumed revelers, neo-glam rockers Louis XIV headlined the Artists Ball Six at SF’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The party kicked off with a performance by Chicago R&B electro outfit Flosstradamus and Kid Sister, followed by sets courtesy of DJ Spider and Bay Area chanteuse Goapele. But it was the swaggering Louis XIV — sporting shaggy mullets and ’70s leisure suits — who really got the audience’s attention.

Frontman Jason Hill pumped the crowd up with cocksure favorites “Finding Out True Love Is Blind” and “Pledge of Allegiance” while punctuating songs with repeated swigs from a nearby bottle of red wine. Between Hill’s oenophile tendencies and Mayor Gavin Newsom’s dance floor dedication with his date, the audience was never at a loss for a main attraction. STORY BY ELAINE SANTORE.
