What? After Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's tragic suicide in 1994, many of the decade's second-tier grunge and alt-rock bands faded away -- and yet, throughout the years, York, PA's Live has endured. From their eight-time-platinum 1994 breakthrough Throwing Copper to their 2006 set Songs from Black Mountain, lead singer Ed Kowalczyk and Co. have maintained steady momentum through the ever-changing musical climate. This week, Live celebrate nearly 20 years of solidarity -- and success -- with the Live at the Paradiso -- Amsterdam DVD.Featuring performances culled from a pair of shows in Holland during June and July of this year, Live at the Paradiso is 70 minutes of anthemic, hard-rocking glory.

Who? Ed Kowalczyk (vocals/guitar), Chad Taylor (guitar), Patrick Dalheimer (bass), and Chad Gracey (drums) first began playing music together while in high school, releasing several records -- including 1990's Divided Mind, Divided Planet -- under the guise of Public Affection before changing their name to Live in 1991.Following the overwhelming success of 1994's Throwing Copper, driven by the hit single "Lightning Crashes," Live went on to release subsequent follow-ups with varying levels of success, including 1999's The Distance to Here and 2001's V, which spawned the post-9/11 hit single "Overcome." In May of 2006, the band appeared on American Idol with finalist Chris Daughtry to perform Black Mountain single "Mystery.".

Fun Fact: Public Affection wasn't the only moniker Live went through in their early years: While in high school, the quartet performed under such bizarre (and, at times, disgusting) names as Paisley Blues, Club Fungus, and Body Odor Boys.
