Live Video from Austin: Steel Train Unplugged!

When you’re spending four days in Austin, Texas, seeing loads of ear-pounding rock’n’roll, it’s always a pleasure to turn down the volume and see some truly remarkable artists play in quieter, stripped-down settings. That’s what happened at the SPIN/MySpace Music Loft on 6th Street when the lads from New Jersey rock act Steel Train stopped by to perform two songs. Watch below!

Taking a short break from their massive North American tour supporting Tegan and Sara to play a handful of gigs at SXSW, the quintet chose to play two cuts from their as-yet-untitled third full-length album, out in June. Both “Turnpike Ghost” — the studio version of which premiered on SPIN.com last month — and “Bullet” featured silky four-part harmonies from singer-guitarist Jack Antonoff, bassist Evan Winiker, guitarist Daniel Silbert, and keyboardist Justin Huey.

Check out the video here, and check out steeltrain.net for full Steel Train tour dates — their tour with Tegan and Sara picks up again March 24 in Minneapolis, and they’ll also play California’s Coachella festival April 17 and New Jersey’s Hoodwink & Bamboozle fests on April 30 and May 2, respectively.
