When Little Boots' Victoria Hesketh dropped "Motorway," the opening track off the English electro-pop singer's forthcoming sophomore album, Nocturnes (out May 7 via On Repeat Records), she revealed a desire to blend forward-thinking dance rhythms with traditional pop tropes. "A big part of what I wanted to do on this record is show that you can produce dance-pop that's both interesting and artistic," Hesketh said, "But maintains the magic of classic pop songwriting."
The DFA-endorsed songstress (co-founder Tim Goldsworthy produced Nocturnes) brilliantly navigates that murky territory on new single "Broken Record." With pulsing synths and clock chimes, the track is as ready for the charts as it is the discothèque.
