LISTEN: Weezer and Lil Wayne Collabo!
MP3
In recent weeks, two things have been quite popular around the SPIN offices: the fall sniffles and "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To," Weezer's catchy song from the band's new album, Raditude. News of a party-time collabo with Lil Wayne kept hope alive…. but then that song leaked today. Ugh.
"Can't Stop Partying" is the weirdest nugget to ever appear on a Weezer album. Ever. And we don't mean that in a good way. Frontman Rivers Cuomo gets auto-tuned and rap/sings about the dark side of a party lifestyle ("I've gotta have Patron / Gotta have the jewels / Gotta have a lot girls around me"); cheesy club beats drop in an out over icy synths worthy of a Cher single ; and there are even a few breaks for R&B "Whoa Whoa oh oh oh ohs"s that wouldn't seem out of place on an Akon record.
What works? Weezy Baby's honest (yet silly) rhymes: "Gotta stop mixing alcohol with pharmaceuticals / Damn my life is beautiful," he spits, giving a little cred to Mr. Holistic Cuomo's tune, before madcapping with: "Weezer and it's Weezy / Upside Down on TV / Please don't shoot me I'm an endangered species."
Sheesh, why would they ever throw this guy in jail? Oh… yeah.

Rivers is an educated and brilliant man. He knows exactly what he's doing. The last few albums have all been part of a concerted effort for Weezer to become one of the big bands in the world. Selling out? maybe. But this is real life, and River is too smart to get caught in thinking within the box like that. The song is silly, goofy, catchy, funny. Will probably get played on the radio a lot. Which is what Weezer is looking for. Is it as good as the first few albums? of course not. This is a different band now looking to expand operations.

I've always just taken Weezer for what they are...funny, upbeat fluff...I don't know, I think this is amusing. How is it worse then something like Beverly Hills? Rivers auto-tuned singing the same sort of nonsense...plus Lil Wayne. Are we supposed to be taking an album named Ratitude more seriously?

Oh.My.God.Would anybody blame me if I called this a disgrace?? I really liked the version he did of this for his last solo record, but this ... Eek.I mean, are we to believe Rivers is actually out there ... partying ... in the V.I.P.?? He just got married!! He needs to grow the hell up and start writing something along the lines of ... well, his age.Growing older is inevitable, and I really considered some songs off the Red Album to be gems: "The Angel And The One",Dreamin","Heart Songs" and the bonus track "Pig".All excellent tracks.I fear for the future ... Of both this band and us fans.Pssh.And you guys called "Chinese Democracy" crap .::Sighs::

Weezer albums arem ore predictable than an episode of threes company. I knew this album was going to be a total cheese factory...BUT THIS!...Oh man...I dont even know where to begin...I think Weezer has finally cleared out its original fan base by now, making room for a new batch of 14 year olds. On tour now with Cobra Starship.

I love that they kept the customary wayne-lighting-a-blunt on the track here...hopefully rivers was the one offering up the lighter lol
this song is dumb as heck but i think it's growing on me, wayne struck just the right tone
