LISTEN: New Superchunk Song!

Superchunk helped define indie rock with their high-velocity guitar sound and D.I.Y ethics, culminating when members Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance founded Merge Records in 1989. Now, the band is back with their first new album nine years, and they thrash with the same brio as the college-radio-ruling, 20-somethings they once were.

The proof: “Digging for Something,” a jangly power-pop anthem off their September 14 release, Majesty Shredding. The song is 100 percent Superchunk — crunchy guitar riffs, bouncing rhythms, and McCaughan’s boyish tenor. Guest vocalist John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats adds cheerful harmony vocals to the feel-good tune.
