LISTEN: The National Perform New Song

Though fans may still be soaking up the desperate brooding of High Violet, the National are starting to offer up more new music, performing an unreleased outtake from the record, “You Were a Kindness,” during a recent performance on Minnesotapublic radio station, the Current. Listen below!

“You Were a Kindness” is yet another gloomy cogitation upon the human experience from brooding frontman Matt Berninger.”There’s a radiant darkness upon us / But I don’t want you to worry / I was careful, but nothing is harmless / Baby you better hurry,” he sings.

During the on-air performance, the band also played stripped down versions of High Violet selections “England,” “Terrible Love,” and “Bloodbuzz Ohio,” with a condensed lineup: Berninger, guitarists Aaron and Bryce Dessner, and a horn section.

The National recently played at SPIN’s 25th anniversary celebration in NYC — click here for a review, and here to watch their performance of “Afraid of Everyone” from that night.
