Hot Chip / Grizzly Bear

A bangin' Hot Chip dance track transformed into melancholy folk? That's just what Brooklyn's Grizzly Bear managed to do during their recent trip down under, where the guys covered "Boy From School" for Australian radio station Triple J.

The performance was part of the station's ongoing "Like a Version" segment, in which bands perform covers of their fave songs.

The electro-pop Hot Chip tune pairs a thumping beat with smooth vocals, but Grizzly Bear's version transforms the song into something more gorgeous. Their cover is supremely mellow, anchored by wistful vocal harmonies and spare acoustic guitar. And it sounds impressively polished, especially considering the band said they've performed it just once before, during a concert in Berlin three years ago.

Which version do you prefer? Listen to Hot Chip's original here, and Grizzly Bear's cover below (skip to the 11:58 mark; first the Grizz plays their song "While We Wait for the Others"), then tell us what you think in the comment section.
