Lilith, Schmilith: Estrogen & Rock Unite in Chicago

If you like your music festivals served up with a side order of third wave feminism, then Chicago’s Estrojam Festival is right up your alley. Taking place September 21-23, this year’s Estrojam includes Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls, the Brazilian Girls, the Octopus Project, and ukulele-enthusiasts the Ukes of Hazzard. The Estrojam event also has a political bent: The organizers seek to forward the work of Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, a Burmese advocate of nonviolence. Bono, reigning elder statesman of the rock world, called Kyi “a modern icon of moral courage.” All Estrojam profits are donated to charities with pro-women mission statements.
