Lil Wayne Joins Cavalcade of Rappers at SXSW ’12

Last week, we learned Lil Wayne was skating down to SXSW this year, but nobody would confirm whether he was playing a show. But in very unsurprisingly news, today his label announced YMCMB will host a “takeover” this Thursday night (March 15) in Austin. Weezy will headline, while Busta Rhymes, Mystikal, Lil Chuckee, Cory Gunz, and Cash Money CEO Birdman will also take the stage at Austin Music Hall. The announcement states the show will start 8 p.m., but getting in is going to be a trial. It’s an official SXSW show, though, and a fest badge or a wristband will do the trick, provided you are willing to wait in line until the venue reaches capacity (4,000 salivating YMCMB fans). Move quickly on Thursday afternoon, and you can drool along with the rest of the 3,999!

Other than Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, there are no mammoth rock shows in Austin at this year’s fest — most of the big headliners are rappers, like Jay-Z (who livestreamed a show last night), 50 Cent, and T.I. And if you believe our own hip-hop blogger Brandon Soderberg, the Boss made a rap album this year, too.

While you’re waiting on the Weezy line, you could bring along your tablet to flip through SPIN’s 40 Must-See Acts of SXSW 2012. And you can come relive the glory of the night before with us the next afternoon, at SPIN’s party at Stubb’s!
