Lil Wayne, an Epileptic, Has Seizures Often, But Last One Almost Killed Him

Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne has finally explained his recent hospitalization for seizures. In an interview with DJ Felli Fell on Los Angeles radio station Power 106 (via Rap-Up), Tunechi said he is an epileptic with a history of frequent seizures. But the Young Money rapper, who just released the mixed-bag I Am Not a Human Being II, reiterated that he’s healthy ahead of this summer’s 2013 America’s Most Wanted Music Festival tour with T.I. and Future.

“The bad news is I’m an epileptic,” Wayne explained. “I’m prone to seizures. This isn’t my first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh seizures. I’ve had a bunch of seizures, y’all just never hear about them. But this time it got real bad ’cause I had three of them in a row and on the third one, my heart rate went down to like 30 percent. Basically, I could’ve died, so that is why it was so serious.”

The cause of the seizure, Wayne continued, was just Weezy being Weezy. He said “the reason being for the seizures is just plain no stress, no rest, overworking myself. That’s just typical me, though.” He noted that he has the seizures so much the people around him “already know what to do.” But three back-to-back seizures? That was a first. And getting to the hospital from Wayne’s house way up in the hills of Los Angeles added to the scare, he said. Asked at the end of the call if he’s 100 percent, Weezy confirmed, “I’m 100.”

As for TMZ, which originally reported that Wayne was being given his last rites, Weezy said he’s not upset. “They gon’ probably come out tomorrow and say something else about somebody else that ain’t true,” he offered. “That’s what they do. The truth isn’t good enough for them, so they gotta twist everything up.”

Aside from health issues, Tunechi also dismissed MTV’s widely discussed “Hottest MCs in the Game” list. “I didn’t even check the top 10 list, but I’m glad I didn’t make it neither,” he said. “I probably pissed some people off at MTV or something.” He might want at least to check out SPIN’s MTV T.R.U. Life: The Real 10 Hottest MCs in the Game.
