An unassuming white house, directly off Sunset Blvd. near the Chateau Marmont, was ground central for what was surely the best party in Los Angeles last week. The invite-only, Levi's hosted Haus Party was a mashup of high cocktail culture and straight-up house party. Upon arrival through the front door, guests walked into the living room/dance floor, and were immediately bombarded with jeans-related art installations. Front and center was a pile of clear trash bags filled with plastic bottles. Levi's Waste<Less jeans (eight plastic bottles can be recycled into a single pair of jeans) swung from cables tethered to the ceiling in front of the bags, with a very Warholian placard stating, "These jeans are made of trash."

The 1984 classic Breakin' was silently projected on a wall opposite the laptop DJ table, and once the party got jumping there wasn't much space to move inside. The flow led past the DJ table to a pretty backyard garden, with two bars strategically placed at opposite ends of the yard, featuring liquid refreshment from co-sponsors Heineken and Patron. Odd Future's Taco and 5-year-old Chloe Wolf (the daughter of Odd Future's manager) got the party started around 9:30 p.m. playing cuts including Kendrick Lamar's "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe," along with throwbacks "This Is How We Do It" and M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes." Tyler, the Creator, along with assorted Odd Future crew, hovered around Taco, with Tyler holding court in a red flannel jacket and solid green cap emblazoned with the word GOLF.

Around 10:30, RZA stepped up to the table, and the energy shifted from polite head-bobbing to down and dirty dance party. RZA assumed DJ duty, calling out partygoers (guests included members of Bon Iver and Sigur Ros) while playing time-tested party anthems "Let's Dance" and "The Humpty Dance." The Wu god was clearly having a blast, his smile beaming across the room. "This ain't no Kid 'N Play party," he said before dropping "Gin and Juice." Toward the end of his set, before queuing up "I Gotta Feeling," RZA grabbed the mic and yelled, "This is a special night y'all!" To everyone in attendance, it certainly felt that way.
