Hear Toro Y Moi Offshoot Les Sins’ Dance Gems ‘Grind’ and ‘Prelims’

Les Sins 'Grind' 'Prelims' Toro y Moi Single House Dance Jiaolong

Even as Chaz Bundick continues to push his Toro y Moi moniker into deeper house-dipped R&B (via Anything in Return), the now Berkeley-based chillwave O.G. presses onward with his dance-oriented Les Sins project. Jiaolong, the label run by Dan Snaith (Caribou, Daphni), will release a digital and 12-inch single from Bundick on March 18 featuring two new rhythmically rich songs. “Grind” is breezy and warm, built on a traditional house beat with cut-up vocal samples and duelling synthesizer solos. Frankly, it’s dreamy. Meanwhile, “Prelims” is more evidence as to why Bundick is “Our Finest Dilla Disciple,” lacing hip-hop drums with baroque notes and burbling bass swells. This one’s a bit moodier, but just as strong, and both prove that this kid consistently excels, even when he is stuck behind a laptop.
