LCD Turn Franz Ferdinand Track Into Hot Disco

For Saturday’s Record Store Day, Franz Ferdinand will release Covers, which features takes on the British band’s songs by Peaches, ESG, Blondie’s Debbie Harry, and others. LCD Soundsystem – who just called it quits with their final live show at New York’s Madison Square Garden – contributed a rendition of “Live Alone,” which hit the web today (via Pitchfork).

James Murphy and his ace band take Franz’ peppy punk-funk number and stretch it out into a brooding, seven-minute disco-banger, spiked with rumbling bass riffs, spacey synths, and stabs of electric guitar. LCD’s contribution to the EP makes sense: Franz Ferdinand recorded a version of LCD’s classic “All My Friends” back in 2008.
