Lana Del Rey’s Full ‘Tropico’ Trailer Is Eye-Popping
Half-hour short film will arrive on December 5 via Vevo
Lana Del Rey’s long-teased Tropico is almost here. And how. The smoky-voiced singer has shared a full trailer for the half-hour short film, co-produced by Rick Rubin and co-starring model Shaun Ross, and it’s a lot to digest — she’s a stripper, she’s Eve, guns are fired, bubbles are blown.
The trailer also at last provides a release date for the project: December 5 via Vevo. Watch it above, and scroll down to see two teaser trailers, one where she prays to a John Wayne-like man, and another where Marilyn Monroe stands beside Jesus Christ during the Lord’s Prayer.
In other Del Rey-related movie news, she’s evidently a big fan of the beloved avant-pop troubadour Daniel Johnston. As FACT and others were first to point out, both Lana Del Rey and Mac Miller have contributed $10,000 apiece to the Kickstarter for upcoming Johnston short film Hi, How Are You?. That makes them executive producers.
Del Rey isn’t new to Hollywood. Earlier this year, she contributed the lavish “Young and Beautiful” to that overstuffed The Great Gatsby film soundtrack. The once-weirdly controversial singer’s breakthrough Born to Die and its Paradise Edition both came out in 2012 (see The Year in Lana Del Rey). But when she hasn’t been blasting over Top 40 radio in a remixed version of that album’s “Summertime Sadness,” the erstwhile Lizzy Grant has been dissing Lady Gaga, springing a few leaks (one since covered by Willis Earl Beal), wowing Lollapooza-goers, covering Hazlewood-Sinatra and Leonard Cohen, and even selling luxury cars. She’s born to hustle hard.
