Lana Del Rey Shares Eerie ‘Shades of Cool,’ Debuts Moody ‘Ultraviolence’

Lana Del Rey Kanye Wedding Shades of Cool

Lana Del Rey used her Memorial Day weekend to get to work, with her Ultraviolence album on the way June 17. On Sunday night, she performed the album’s moody title track for the first time, during a set in Vancouver, Canada (watch fan video of that above). The same day, she shared the studio version of the LP’s nocturnal, uneasy “Shades of Cool”; produced by Rick Nowels, who co-wrote “Young and Beautiful” and “Summertime Sadness,” it’s more subdued than either but still provides a misty-eyed peek into Ultraviolence (scroll down to listen below).

And Friday night, Del Rey found herself at the Palace at Versailles performing for Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s pre-wedding party. An orchestral performance of Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful” soundtracked the couple’s engagement, but this time she was on hand in person for a three-song performance including “Summertime Sadness,” according to E!. No video has surfaced yet from that performance, but there are some (dubious) reports that she garnered a $2.8 million fee for that three-song set.
