Lady Gaga is happy to be home.

The Grammy-winning star returned to New York City Monday night for the first show of a sold-out two-night stand at Madison Square Garden, which is being filmed for an HBO special set to air May 7. She pulled out all stops for the occasion — and dished out plenty love for the Big Apple while surrounded by 20,000 screaming hometown fans.

“My name is Lady Gaga, and I was born and raised in the unbreakable streets of New York City,” Gaga proclaimed onstage during the show, the second stop of the latest leg on her massive “Monster Ball” trek. [Via MTV]

She even joked about the rivalry between Mets and Yankees fans — “Are we gonna get divided now if I put this on?” she cracked before pulling on a Yankees ball cap — and said, “God bless the New York Fire Department: They told me I couldn’t light my piano on fire.” She even name-checked her former nail salon in the Lower East Side in the lyrics to “Speechless.”

“There’s just something about Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island,” she said later.
