Lady Gaga Ups Ante for Album Announcements With ‘ARTPOP’ Tattoo

Lady Gaga is setting an ambitious precedent for album name announcements by revealing the title of her upcoming album via tattoo. The pop star posted a photo on her Little Monsters social network three days ago of a fresh tattoo on her right triceps reading “ARTPOP.” She added in a tweet, “make sure when writing about my new album/project ARTPOP that you CAPITALIZE the title, *its all in the details* good morning twitter!”

Considering the last time Gaga broke news about an album title she did so while wearing the most blogged-about piece of sirloin in history, this announcement is relatively low-key. But Gaga also has Born This Way inked on her body, too, in a unicorn tat on her left thigh. If she continues to have all her album titles permanently emblazoned on her body, she’s going to have to avoid pulling an Aerosmith (Honkin’ on Bobo) or a Fiona Apple (The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do).

Gaga had promised she’d reveal the name of the follow-up to Born This Way in September, leading many fans to speculate she’d be pulling another stunt at MTV’s Video Music Awards, where she famously asked Cher to hold her meat purse. But as SPIN reported last week, Gaga didn’t receive any VMA nominations this year — likely because she’ll be unable to attend the event (she’s on tour in Europe in early September, though she doesn’t have a show booked on the night of the ceremony, September 6).
