Ladies Helping Ladies

Rap trio Northern State helped a chic women’s networking group, Ladies Lotto, celebrate the work of Planned Parenthood last night, performing at a fundraiser at the Foundry in Queens, New York. Attendees bid on items like couture clothing, original artwork, and a pink bicycle at the silent auction while Northern State performed new songs recently produced by the Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock.

Ladies Lotto, which presented the event, attracts dynamic and creative young women interested in furthering their careers and helping others to do the same, however their roots have much humbler beginnings. “It started as three girls sitting on a couch, smoking weed, drinking beers, and talking about how we could help each other out,” founding member Natalie Blacker told SPIN.com. Now with more than 150 NYC members, and more joining each day, Ladies Lotto continues to grow with branches starting up in Philly, Boston, LA, Montreal, and even London. Blacker entices prospective members with, “Whatever it is that you want, you can find it here.” KATIE HEATH
