Hear La Roux’s Sentimental, Synth-Poppy ‘Uptight Downtown’

La Roux’s Elly Jackson announced earlier this month that she’d finally be following up her disaffected debut album with a July full-length called Trouble in Paradise. Today she shares the second track from that record, the darkly sentimental “Uptight Downtown.”

Like first single “Let Me Down Gently,” Jackson’s new track is wound tightly around crisp snare work and neon ribbons of synthesizer leads. “Uptight Downtown” throws in some jittery electric guitar work for good measure, placing it somewhere between Chic and Chromatics on the spectrum of nighttime-appropriate pop.

In addition to this new single, Jackson’s also released a dizzying remix of “Gently” by Norwegian space-disco producer Prins Thomas. You can hear both of those tracks below.
