The title track from La Big Vic’s sophomore album, Cold War, answers its own question. “Are we really here?” sings Emilie Friedlander, a vocalist and violinist who is also a music journalist. Friedlander is joined in the Brooklyn trio by keyboardist Peter Pearson and guitarist Toshio Masuda, who bring with them their own disparate ties: to Pink Floyd, to Japanese pop music. As on previously surfaced Cold War cuts “Ave. B” and “All That Heaven Allows,” it all comes to a heady gestalt, luminescent with electronics and sinuous with classical instrumentation. La Big Vic are here, and, as it happens, so is Cold War: The album is out today via Underwater Peoples.
